Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born on
January 27, 1756 in Salzburg. Two trios
in B flat Major, K266 & K172, are among
his chamber music composed for a small
ensemble. |
 |
The first trio consists of two movements, Adagio
and Minuet and the second one, K172, has a
minuet and a trio. Mozart lived a very short
life. He died on December 5, 1791.
Franz Schubert was born on January 31, 1797.
"Tear Drops" is one of his famous 600 Lieds.
Here in this performance, the piece has been
re-arranged for the violin trio.
Another composition of his in this album is "
German Dance" which is in binary (AB) form.
Francisco Tarrega was born in Villarreal in
1852. He was a Guitar virtuoso who founded a
modern style of guitar playing. "Adelita” by
this Spanish musician is arranged for violin

Tarrega died in Barcelona in 1909.
Motet is a form of short unaccompanied choral
composition. This sort of music has a sacred
theme and is composed for one or more voices.
The term "Motet" has been used for naming this
form since the 13th century. The Motet presented
here is a three voice one, which is performed by
violin trio. It is anonymous and has a sacred
and oriental feeling to it.
"Conductus" is a non-religious music composed on
the basis of the old themes and melodies of 12th
century. Basically in a Conductus, the
conducting priest had been able to conduct the
music from his own place at Church. So we can
deduce that the term "Conductus" is derived from
the word "conductor". The composer of Conductus
was free to compose his own melodies or pick
them from somewhere else. A German theorist of
medieval music describes the Conductus as below:
First, presentation of the loveliest melody,
then performance of the second voice and then
preferentially adding the third voice, as long
as it is not making it unpleasant.
The Conductus presented in this cassette is a
three-voice one and is performed by three
violins.
Perotinus Magnus is a French composer born in
1160. He was a choirmaster and the composer of
many religious and non-religious works.
Perotin is an eminent representative of the
ancient art. He had become famous as "the Great
Perotin" because of his advanced polyphonic
compositions. "Organum" which is comprised of
two, three or four parts of polyphonic voices,
includes only one religious part. Originally in
Latin, Organum means organ therefore the
polyphonic quality of Organum can be considered
as an organic concept. Perotin passed away in
1240.
Jacob Obrecht was born in Netherlands in 1457 (?
58) and died in Ferrara in 1505. He started his
higher education in Bergen Op Zoom and graduated
from Leuven University in 1470. He then became a
priest. Motet and Chanson are two samples of his
numerous works within which he has mixed
medieval formalism with the prudence of modern
ages.
"Pictures of Childhood" by Aram Khachaturian,
the great Armenian composer, is a reminder of
motherland and childhood. He was born in July 6,
1930 in Tiblisi and died in Moscow on May 1,
1978.
Johann Sebastian Bach is considered to be among
the founders of scientific music. Prelude and
Fugue (arranged for violin trio here) are
selected from his well-tempered clavier album.
These works clearly depict the genius and
multidimensional character of their composer.
Bach was born on March 26,1681 in Eisenach. His
family was dominating over European music for
two centuries. He died on January 28, 1750 in
Leipzig.
George Phillip Telemann was born on March 14,
1681 in Magdeburg. He is considered to be among
the pioneers of the Hamburg school in 18th
century. A significant part of his style was to
make connections between the traditional
counterpoint and the Italian operatic style.
Suit in B flat Major is composed for an ensemble
of three violins. Comprising of five movements,
this suit has a clear musical stream. He died on
June 25, 1767 in Hamburg.
